JAPAN FILM FEST HAMBURG
From 18.06.2025 - 22.06.2025 the Japan Filmfest Hamburg will take place again
The Japan Film Festival is entering its next round and will once again be showing exciting films at the Metropolis and Studio Cinemas!
Since 1999, the NIHON MEDIA EV team has been bringing Japanese films and culture to Hamburg. In an effort to bring Japanese and German culture closer together, the team's work is entirely volunteer-based.
For 26 years now, the team has enchanted us with numerous films. Initially planned as a one-off film series using guerrilla tactics, the festival met with an astonishing and overwhelmingly positive response. In 2002, the NIHON Media e.V. association was founded to break down organizational barriers. Thanks to the association, it was not only possible to promote Japanese cinema but also to create a German-Japanese meeting place. Would you like to learn more about the history of the festival?
Anyone interested in film and Japanese culture will love this five-day festival. There will even be film awards presented at the end of the festival!
The first screening on June 18th is "Wings of The Phoenix" at 8:00 PM at the Metropolis. On June 19th, moviegoers can choose to go to either the Metropolis or the Studio Kino, as both cinemas offer different programs. World premieres of titles like "Voice of the River" and "Sweet Silly Dance Night" are particularly exciting.

All films are divided into the following categories: Naginata, Noh/Arthouse, Rakugo, and Anime. An overview and summary of all titles can be found here .
The opening film costs 13 euros, while a single ticket costs 11 euros. You can purchase these either on-site or online. Those who want to treat themselves to a special experience can purchase a season ticket for 150 euros. To do so, you'll need to fill out a contact form .
